I am in the home stretch of a major remodel for a nice, young client who is new to the design process. He has put a tremendous amount of faith in me and my abilities. I’ve spent so much time and effort working on his kitchen that it has come to feel like my baby. It’s birth is imminent! The cabinets are ready to install, the walls are ready for paint, and there are four beautiful slabs of granite waiting patiently, out in the snow, to see if they will be one of the two lucky fellows who will pull this project together. I am counting on them!
I’ve remained pretty confident in my work on this project throughout the last five months, but suddenly, doubt has set in. Since an unfortunate choice made early in my senior thesis/design major project stifled what my design could have been, I try never to get too attached to an idea I’ve had or a product I like. I love all manner of styles, fabrics, finishes, furnishings and surfaces, and in this project the client and I both feel like granite is the way to go. If I wasn’t so sure, this surprisingly seductive Silestone commercial, by one of my favorite young artists, may have made me change my mind!
